Welcome to the Marine Management Research Group.

The group was established in 2002 under the leadership of Associate Professor Lynnath Beckley to focus research and training at Murdoch University in the field of marine and coastal management. Our research interests include biological oceanography, marine protected areas, coastal fisheries, coastal management, remote sensing and GIS applications to marine environmental monitoring.

At Murdoch, we have strong links with researchers in the School of Environmental Science, Centre for Fish & Fisheries Research and the Marine & Freshwater Research Laboratory. We maintain research linkages with CSIRO Marine Research, the University of Western Australia, WA Department of Fisheries, WA Department of Environment and Conservation, Rottnest Island Authority, Australian Museum and the Oceanographic Research Institute (South Africa). Members of the group are actively involved with the WA Land Information System, WA Satellite Technology Application Centre and the Australian Marine Sciences Association.

The undergraduate units that we teach are usually taken by students enrolled in Marine Science, Environmental Science, Biology and Conservation Biology. They include Coastal and Marine Management, Geographical Information Systems, Australian Coastal Environments and Environmental Monitoring.
